In this first episode of the Jungian psychology series, I begin with a problem most thoughtful adults recognize in themselves: the gap between understanding and behaviour.
We can identify a pattern, analyze it, explain it, even teach it. Yet we repeat it.
Jung’s starting point is direct. The ego is not the whole psyche. When we say, “I know better,” that statement comes from the conscious personality. Other structures operate outside awareness. When those structures are activated, intention does not govern behavior.
In this episode, I outline the basic terrain: the ego, the personal unconscious, and organized emotional patterns that direct perception and reaction. Archetypes and mythology are not the focus here. We are building a foundation.
The aim of the season is to move from problem to structure to application, building a map before drawing broader conclusions.
If you have questioned why insight fails to produce change, this is where the analysis begins.
