Have you ever wondered how to tap into your body's inner energy, promoting physical and mental well-being while connecting with centuries-old traditions? The answer lies in the mystical world of Red Dragon Qi Gong, a practice that unlocks the secrets of internal energy systems. In this blog post, we will delve into the depths of Red Dragon Qi Gong, exploring its history, health benefits, and how it works.
What is Red Dragon Qi Gong?
Red Dragon Qi Gong serves as the foundation of Feng Dao De's (馮道德) Internal Energy System. The name "Red Dragon" is symbolic, representing the internal heat or "Yang Qi" (楊氣) cultivated through standing meditation sets. These sets stretch and open up the channels that circulate energy throughout the body.
This meditation systematically opens the spine, allowing energy to flow through the twelve main meridians, nourishing the internal organs. A rare and powerful internal practice, Red Dragon Qi Gong was meticulously preserved within the Du family (杜) lineage for many centuries, passed down from Grandmaster Du Wei (杜韋) of the White Tiger System to Sifu Garry Hearfield (希佳力).
The Health Benefits of Qi Gong
Qi Gong offers a plethora of health benefits, making it an attractive practice for those seeking physical and mental wellness:
Regulation of Blood Pressure: Qi Gong can help regulate blood pressure, promoting cardiovascular health.
Regulation of Sex Hormone Levels: It can also play a role in balancing sex hormone levels, contributing to overall well-being.
Improvement in Blood Circulation: Qi Gong practices enhance blood circulation, ensuring that vital nutrients reach every corner of your body.
Increases in Antioxidants in the Blood: Antioxidants are essential for fighting oxidative stress and maintaining cellular health.
Increases in Blood Flow to the Brain: Enhanced blood flow to the brain can improve cognitive function and mental clarity.
Increases Neurotransmitter Levels: Qi Gong can help optimize neurotransmitter levels, promoting mental health.
Increased GAMMA Brain Wave Production: Gamma brain waves are associated with higher cognitive functions like learning and problem-solving.
Decreases in Stress Hormones: By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, Qi Gong reduces stress hormone levels, promoting relaxation.
How Does Qi Gong Work?
Qi Gong's magic lies in its ability to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Unlike the sympathetic nervous system, responsible for the "fight-or-flight" response, the parasympathetic system triggers the "rest & digest" mode. By doing so, Qi Gong helps the body conserve energy and initiate its natural healing processes.
A Glimpse into History
The roots of Red Dragon Qi Gong trace back to a time of upheaval and survival in China. Feng Dao De, one of the legendary Five Elders, escaped the destruction of the Shaolin Temple by the Qing Dynasty. This group of masters, including Zhì Shàn Chán Shī, Wǔ Méi Dà Shī, Bái Méi Dào Rén, Féng Dào Dé, and Miáo Xiǎn, found refuge in a temple at Nine Lotus Mountain in Fujian.
During their seclusion, they refined their knowledge of health, meditation, and martial wisdom. Unfortunately, this temple was also attacked and destroyed by the Manchu. Feng Dao De went on to study medicine and spirituality in Sichuan's remote mountain area, thanks to the assistance of Du Tian Yin, a Taoist monk.
Du Tian Yin, a high-ranking official, provided refuge to Feng Dao De, ultimately leading to a unique exchange. In return for his life and freedom, Feng Dao De passed on his knowledge to Du Tian Yin as the 1st generation Du family inherited Grandmaster of the White Tiger Kung Fu system of martial arts.
As a Daoist monk, Feng Dao De traveled throughout remote China, mastering and collecting fighting and healing skills from numerous tribes and villages. This fusion of Taoism, Buddhism, and folk culture gave birth to the first generation of White Tiger Kung Fu and Qi Gong practitioners.
From this rich history emerged the practice of Red Dragon Qi Gong (Hóng Lóng Qì Gōng) and White Tiger Spirit Medicine Meditation (Bái Hǔ Shén Yī Gong). These practices continue to bridge the ancient wisdom of China with modern wellness, offering a path to physical and mental harmony.
Incorporating Red Dragon Qi Gong into your life can be a transformative experience, connecting you with centuries of wisdom and unlocking the power of your body's internal energy. Embrace this practice, and you may discover a profound journey towards well-being, balance, and self-discovery.
